In this etching Kapoor uses the vocabulary of the preparatory drawings and sketches he makes for his sculptures. The subtle gradations of the saturated black ink, from deep and drenched to faded and almost white, bring about a disorientation in our perception of the two-dimensional nature of the work. The intense colour of his Shadow works is mirrored in his equally graphically intense monochrome images, as shown here.
