Damien Hirst started experimenting with his ‘spin’ concept in the early 1990s. Etchings from the portfolio In a Spin, the Action of the World on Things, Volume II are created using a spin machine, which Hirst originally made to create his spin drawings in 1994. Later he returned to this concept, using the machine to make spontaneous circular marks directly onto an etching plate before printing it through a press. The form of these prints relies solely on the motion of the machine.
