Archival pigment print with screenprinted spot varnish

Home / glossary / Archival pigment print with screenprinted spot varnish

A print process in which a sophisticated inkjet printer is used to print an image, using fine-grained pigment inks (rather than dye). Piezoelectric technology forces ink through microscopic holes. The ink droplets are then electrostatically steered onto the surface of the paper. The result is a high-quality, high-definition archival print.

Multiple layers of gloss varnish are then applied onto specific areas of the print using the screenprinting technique. This creates a textural difference between the matte background and glossy foreground, and enhances details within the image.
