Collaged screenprint with printed perspex overlay

Home / glossary / Collaged screenprint with printed perspex overlay

Also known as a silkscreen, a design is transferred onto a mesh ‘screen’, which is stretched over a frame. The design acts like a stencil, blocking out specific areas of the screen. A squeegee is then used to force ink through the mesh, transferring the ink onto a sheet of paper below through the permeable areas in the design. The image is printed one colour at a time and demands careful registration.

A play on the word ‘VELO’ (‘LOVE’ rotated), the artist has collaged a sheet of perspex over the top of the screenprint, printed with the structure and spokes of a bicycle wheel, to create this unique work.
