Screenprint with gold or silver leaf

Home / glossary / Screenprint with gold or silver leaf

Also known as silkscreen, a design is transferred into a mesh ‘screen’, which is stretched over a frame. The design acts like a stencil, blocking out specific areas of the screen. A squeegee is then used to force ink through the mesh, transferring the ink into a sheet of paper below through the permeable areas in the design. This particular print is created from 12 colours (layers) of printing. It is finished with the application of gold (or silver) leaf sheets to the paper by hand.
