Grayson Perry

Grayson Perry RA (b. 1960) graduated from Portsmouth Polytechnic, UK, in 1982 with a BA in Fine Arts, soon establishing himself as a ceramicist, creating vase forms inlaid with a highly autobiographical narrative of colourful imagery and forthright observations on art and society, often incorporating his cross-dressing alter ego “Claire”. His career has encompassed a wide range of arts and arts-related activities and media, from tapestries and installations to publishing and broadcasting. In 2003 he was awarded the Turner Prize. Since then he has published two autobiographies, a graphic novel, and a book about art for the general reader, Playing to the Gallery (2016). Perry has had solo exhibitions in Amsterdam, London, Bristol, Pittsburgh, and Japan. In early 2020 Perry’s early ceramics were displayed in Grayson Perry: The Pre-Therapy Years at the Holburne Museum, UK, now running until January 2021.
