Christopher Le Brun’s recent prints have been focused on a series of abstracts suggesting the act of woodblock printing rather than any reference to descriptive or naturalistic subjects. Even so, one commentator has described them as “delicate, refined abstractions that you can, if you insist, sometimes read as landscapes, or even as panoramic cityscapes,” and certainly Le Brun’s work is rooted in an English appreciation of landscape and nature. References to music and literature, themes already present in his earlier work, continue in this new edition of woodcut prints reflecting the luminous nature of his abstract paintings.
