Trees are a recurring motif in George Shaw’s work, inspired by the woods surrounding the Tile Hill area of Coventry, where the artist grew up. In The Nearly New Romantic, a graffiti heart has been painted onto the trunk of an old tree, suggesting a secret meeting point for unseen lovers.
