Screenprint on gold leaf

Home / glossary / Screenprint on gold leaf

Also known as silkscreen, a design transferred on to a mesh ‘screen’, which is stretched over a frame. The design acts like a stencil, blocking out specific areas of the screen. A squeegee is then used to force ink through the mesh, transferring the ink on to a sheet of paper below through the permeable areas in the design. This particular image is screened on top of a layer of gold leaf, which was applied to the paper beforehand. The print is finished with a protective varnish.
