Marc Quinn (b. 1964) studied History of Art at Cambridge University, UK, subsequently creating sculpture in a challenging range of media. He rose to prominence with Self (1991), a sculptural self-portrait created from his own frozen blood. His early series of marble figures culminated in a giant statue of a heavily pregnant Alison Lapper, a woman born without arms, on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, London, in 2005. A full-length feature documentary, Making Waves, about a year in Quinn’s life and art, was released in 2014. Recent solo exhibitions include Under the Skin, a retrospective exhibition at CAFA Art Museum, Beijing, and History & Chaos at Ross-Michael Foundation, Dallas, Texas. Quinn is currently working on a major non-for-profit project, Our Blood, in aid of the refugee crisis, which is due to be unveiled on the steps of New York Public Library in 2022.
