A hallmark of George Shaw’s signature wit, the mischievous figure in Call of Nature alludes to a self-portrait of the artist. Trees are a recurring motif in George Shaw’s work, inspired by the woods surrounding the Tile Hill area of Coventry, where the artist grew up. The composition of this edition draws upon Shaw’s painting of the same title featured in his major solo exhibitions at The National Gallery, London, UK, The Holburne Museum, Bath, UK, and Yale Center for British Art in New Haven, Connecticut, USA, from 2018-19.
