Marc Quinn

Marc Quinn (b. 1964) studied History of Art at Cambridge University, UK, subsequently creating sculpture in a challenging range of media. He rose to prominence with Self (1991), a sculptural self-portrait created from his own frozen blood. His early series of marble figures culminated in a giant statue of a heavily pregnant Alison Lapper, a woman born without arms, on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, London, in 2005. A full-length feature documentary, Making Waves, about a year in Quinn’s life and art, was released in 2014. Recent solo exhibitions include Under the Skin, a retrospective exhibition at CAFA Art Museum, Beijing; History & Chaos at Ross-Michael Foundation, Dallas, Texas; HISTORYNOW at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Venezia, and Light into Life at London’s Kew Gardens, UK. Quinn’s Self (2006) has also recently been included in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery, London.
